Providers and Staff at Canyon Pediatrics

Canyon providers are Doctors, Nurse Practitioners, Physician’s Assistants, Social Workers, and Dieticians all working to support you and your family

Dr. Robert Kosiorek 

Dr. Robert Kosiorek has been with Canyon Pediatrics for over 30 years providing quality services to multiple generations of East Valley families and is our current medical director. 

Dr. Howard Garner

Dr. Howard Garner is a pediatrician with over 20 years of experience in the East Valley. He has been married for over 20 year and has three beautiful children. Dr. Garner completed his medical degree at the University of Virginia and completed post-doc training in both pediatrics and family practice.

Dr. Tim Nguyen 

Dr. Tim Nguyen has been a pediatrician with Canyon Pediatrics for over 10 years now and we’re happy to have him! He’s an active staff member who speaks both Vietnamese and Spanish. 

Rebecca Alvarez, M.S., PA-C 

Rebecca Alvarez has been with Canyon Pediatrics at our Mesa location for a little over 15 years now! She’s passionate about Children’s health and enjoys watching all of her patients grow and flourish. Rebecca is fluent in Spanish and works closely with our in-house behavioral health consultants.

Kat Waters FNP-C 

Kat is a board certified family nurse practitioner specializing in pediatrics up to the age of 25 years old. She is a US Veteran and served 4 years as a combat medic in the US Army. She obtained her BSN through Grand Canyon University and worked bedside as an emergency room nurse and labor and delivery nurse. She furthered her career and obtained her FNP-C through University of Phoenix and board certification through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She is dedicated to being both the voice and the hands for her patients in need, consistently providing them with the best care possible!

Ashley Brubaker LMSW, PMH-C, BHP

Ashley is a social worker who currently is employed at Canyon Pediatrics. She earned her MSW at Arizona State University in 2018 and received her LMSW licensure in 2019. In 2020 she completed the Napa Infant-Parent Mental Health Fellowship through UC Davis and the Napa Parent, Infant, & Child Institute.

In 2020 she also became Perinatal Mental Health Certified though Postpartum Support International. 

She works collaboratively with pediatricians integrating mental health consultation along with physical wellness services. She is the Infant-Parent Mental Health clinician for children and their parents concerning development, behaviors, and working with the parent child relationship. 

As she continues her work, Ashley and the providers will continue to work together to comprehensively address the overall physical and social emotional health of young children through the primary care with a lens of strengthening positive first relationships.

Richard Brubaker, CEO, LMSW, BHP 

Richard Brubaker is CEO or Canyon Pediatrics and is also a social worker, doctoral candidate, and Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC). Richard is a social worker with a history of working with children and families who have experienced trauma in their lives. He has a background in a number of local children’s agencies in the valley including Arizona’s Children Association, Child Help, Valle del Sol, and Touchstone Behavioral Health.

Most recently Richard has become and advocate of trauma-informed care which lead to a doctorate that connects our physical and mental health to address the whole person. Richard is a proponent of mindfulness and utilizes EMDR, Trauma-focused CBT, Humanistic sandtray therapy in clinical practice.

Carly Wells – Registered Dietician – WIC Director

Carly Wells is the WIC Director and Registered Dietitian for the Canyon WIC program. She has worked for WIC for about 8 years total and also has worked as an outpatient Clinical Dietitian. She has a passion working with families of young children to reach their health and nutrition goals. She is a Certified Lactation Specialist and counsels women in breastfeeding. She can relate to the busy mom life and has 3 young kids of her own. Before kids, she was an avid runner and coached high school track and provided sports nutrition counseling for young athletes.
